I am also an experienced professional henna artist.  I do henna (mehndi) for many special occasions including (and especially!) pregnancy.  Henna is an all-natural plant dye from the plant lawsonia inermis which grows in India, Pakistan, and North Africa.  When mixed with something acidic like lemon juice the plant material breaks down and releases a safe, non toxic dye.  This is applied to the skin and creates first an orange then a reddish brown stain that lasts for weeks!  Henna is one of the gentlest things you can put on your skin and is safe during pregnancy.  It’s a beautiful way to celebrate the life growing inside you!

If you are a doula client of mine I will give you a 15% discount (from $100/hr to $85/hr, an entire belly usually takes 1.5-2.5 hours).
Mehndi is perfect for baby showers, Mother Blessings (or Blessingways), and to encourage a someone who may be on bed rest or having a difficult pregnancy.

Traditionally a person is hennaed in their eighth month to protect them and their baby during birth, then again after the baby is born.  They are not allowed to do housework until the henna wears off!
